Underpinning is undertaken when adding new basements below historic buildings or to strengthen the foundations of old buildings. Typically, underpinning works use micropiles with cross bracing systems to transfer the loads between existing structures and the loads while inducing the minimum possible deformations.
At the early stages of any underpinning project, Edrafor will collect all data relative to the structure to be underpinned. These necessarily include the type of foundations, a construction history of the structure, the structural design elements of the structure, foundation soils, groundwater, and the load transfer mechanism between old and new.
During this step, Edrafor design team is generally in close contact with the Owner’s design team as these types of projects require excellent team-work between the various parties.
